Four Saturdays, four artists and plenty of children’s imagination
This year, the traditional “Summer Kitchen” (Litnja kužina) got its very own “little” edition. On Saturday mornings throughout August, the lawn in front of NKC Azimut became a meeting place for children and artists.
Rather than taking part in traditional art workshops, the youngest visitors had the opportunity to meet artists exhibiting at this year’s Litnja kužina and create alongside them.
The programme was opened by Lidia Biočić, a teacher of vocational subjects at the Painting Department of the School of Applied Arts and Design in Zadar. Her work combines a variety of techniques, and she strives to make art accessible to as wide an audience as possible. During the first workshop, she introduced the children to the world of collage, drawing and free artistic expression.
The second workshop was led by Branka Petričević Koprivnjak, an artist working in painting, ceramics and jewellery making. Inspired by the traditional costumes of the Dalmatian hinterland, she used a paper-doll workshop to introduce the children to different elements of traditional dress, while encouraging them to use their own imagination to embellish the paper figures and create little scenes from life in times gone by.
The third Saturday featured a workshop by Lara Landeka, whose works made from pebbles, shells and twigs are among the most distinctive pieces at this year’s Litnja kužina. Using small canvases, acrylic paints and natural materials, the children created their own artworks inspired by nature and everyday life, showing just how much imagination can fit into a handful of pebbles found on the beach.
And this Saturday, we’ll be joined by Iva Sabljić Martinović – Furešta Črčkalica, a self-taught artist who explores a variety of media and often finds inspiration in Zaton and the everyday life around her.
At this year’s Litnja kužina, she is presenting mixed-media works inspired by the Zaton agglomeration project, while during the children’s workshop she will show how an ordinary tin can, with a little paint, imagination and creativity, can be transformed into a new and useful object.
