15 submissions, two awarded works, and a concrete step towards reducing plastic in cultural production

Šibenik, April 27, 2026 – NKC Azimut has announced the results of its competition for the design of prints on reusable cups, which concluded on April 10 with a total of 15 submissions from across Croatia. The competition aimed to find a visual identity that functions in real-life settings—at the bar, in hand, at concerts—while simultaneously communicating Azimut’s urban character, musical energy, and commitment to sustainability.

The expert jury decided to award two top entries:

1st prize – Maja Halapija
2nd prize – Sanja Junaković

Other participants included: Josip Huljev, Maja Halapija, Maja Kolar, Luka Nikpalj, Iva Ribarić, Ema Komušar, Ante Orlović, Mićo Samardžija, Sanja Junaković, Antea Delpin, Leo Pavlović, Marija Bošnjak and Mara Đurica. We thank everyone for participating—the submitted works demonstrated a serious approach to the task, as well as a strong sense of the context in which the design will live.

We are introducing reusable cups as a standard in order to reduce single-use plastic and the waste generated after events. It’s a simple, practical decision that, in the long run, means less trash, a cleaner environment, and a more sustainable way of working. If, along the way, the cup gains a design that people want to keep as a souvenir and continue using, then the whole idea gains even more value.

The competition was carried out as part of the “Vodonoša” project, within the broader framework of NKC Azimut’s multi-year green transformation efforts, supported by Krka National Park. In previous years, Azimut introduced a waste separation system in collaboration with municipal services, enabling on-site sorting of plastic, glass, electronics, and other types of waste. At the same time, data on the carbon footprint of its programs—from artist travel to production—has been monitored to gain a realistic understanding of the impact and identify areas for reduction.

“Through this year’s ‘Vodonoša’ project, we are addressing a very concrete issue—the amount of plastic left behind after events. By introducing reusable cups for visitors and reusable packaging for performers’ refreshments, we are reducing both waste and costs, while also setting a standard that makes sense in the long term. On an annual level, this means thousands fewer plastic cups and bottles,” said Hrvoje Jelković from Azimut. “I would like to sincerely thank Krka National Park for recognizing our efforts in implementing green practices in cultural event organization over the years, as well as Zagrebačka pivovara for joining this year as a sponsor.”

Congratulations to the winners—we look forward to seeing their designs come to life in real settings, among audiences and at events in Azimut.
