The exhibited painterly “scribbles” of Davor Gobac, as the author himself calls them, draw their inspiration from the social and artistic phenomena of the 1960s and 1970s. Andy Warhol and The Velvet Underground are therefore just the first in a long line of influential and well-known figures who shaped Gobac’s distinctive visual style. Their importance lies primarily in their pioneering fusion of pop art elements as visual expression with emerging musical movements — particularly the alternative and so-called old-school punk scene of the time.

“Tonight we opened a special exhibition for the city of Šibenik and Club Azimut, as part of the International Children’s Festival (MDF). This is an exhibition by Davor Gobac, who, besides being a wild rocker, is equally wild in his visual art practice, so I’ve been waiting for the day we could bring his exhibition to Šibenik. In many ways, this exhibition belongs to the world of MDF and closely resembles the world of children’s imagination that Šibenik is currently immersed in. His paintings can only be described as — Davor Gobac. The way he is, that’s exactly how his paintings are,” said Branka Grubić, head of the visual arts department of Kolektiva 4B.

Although we primarily know him from the music world, this exhibition reveals another side of him, and the organizers are pleased that audiences in Šibenik have the opportunity to experience it.

“At this year’s MDF, we have the opportunity to see musician Davor Gobac with his paintings, and musician Damir Urban with his children’s picture book,” they added.

Nik Titanik also attended the exhibition and believes it is something everyone should see.

I was thrilled to come across this exhibition. This is something everyone should see because this is the mind of a genius. It’s an exhibition intended for both children and adults — adults will notice details that a child’s eye might miss. Every painting carries hidden connotations.
